Fender American Standard Stratocaster Review

By Janus Ng

Fender is recognised for its high quality instruments. Within its wide range guitars, the Fender American Standard Stratocaster is the most iconic, recognized and copied guitar. It has basically set the standards for all other guitars to follow.

The American Standard Strat is simply a classic guitar. Everything from the slight tones to the exquisite design all associate with great sounding and playing results.

Finish: Whether it's a white on black strat, or a candy apple red American hardwood buddy holly strat, the finish is perfectly smooth. The nuts, tuning machinery and tremolo system are polished to enhance the overall look. The tone knobs are in classical styling, featuring numbers and a nice smooth motion.

Design: The tone knobs are designed in such a way that results in no crackle or buzz. The perfect wiring makes switching from one pickup to another easy and smooth. The Fender patented "Delta Tone" system gives each pickup its own quality. And the iconic shape of the Strat makes playing comfortable as it fits perfectly to the body.

Playability: Playing the Fender American Standard Stratocaster is nothing like playing the other guitars. As great as the les pauls are, you just have to admit that the craftsmanship of this Fender Stratocaster is exquisite. The neck is smooth, the height of the strings is perfect to make that Fender twang. Well known for its versatility, the Fender Strat of course can play almost all types of music from jazz to metal.

Quality of Sound: The sound of this strat is simply amazing. If you have the volume rolled off, play it through an amp, with the neck (or mid) pickups engaged, it sounds just awesome. It has a delicate singing tone, and a light tap of the trem adds depth and a bit nuance to the sound.

Overall: The Fender American Standard Stratocaster costs close to $1,000, which is way more expensive than the Standard series strats. However, the higher cost of the American Standard model includes the Delta tone pickups which are invaluable to how the Strat sounds.

The Fender Stratocaster Standard made in Fender's Mexican based facility is also nice and good value, especially for players with a budget. However, with this American Standard Strat, you get a real worth for your money, and something that is lacked in most of the modern guitars: great tone, which is like the spirit of this Strat.
