* Keep the top, back, and sides of your guitar clean. Polish these areas using a high quality furniture polish. You can also use polishes that are made for guitars alone. This will keep your guitar looking good all the time.

* Make sure that you wipe the neck after each use. A dry cloth will be enough to clean the neck. This would be one way of protecting your fret board. It could also help in prolonging the life of your guitar strings.

* Whenever you change strings, don't forget to dress the frets. This is very important especially if you play often. Dirt and oil from your hands could accumulate on the fret board and can affect the sound of your guitar.

* Remember not to expose your guitar to extreme weather conditions for a long period. Exposing your guitar to excessive heat or sunlight can make it look old in just a day of exposure. Although cold may not cause much damage to the finish, it can however cause problems with the guitar's bindings, inlays, and the neck.

* Protect your guitar from humidity. This is often a problem whenever your guitar is already inside the case. You can utilize a capsule from a guitar store, and place the capsule in the case to stabilize the humidity inside.

* Avoid things that could literally harm your guitar. Try to avoid objects that could scratch or create dents on your guitar.

These are simple basic electric guitar care tips that you can do to preserve the beauty and quality of your instrument. Also, don't forget to bring it to an expert guitar technician for a complete checkup, at least once a year. That way you can be assured that your instrument is in tip-top shape!
