2PM Will Be Back: Their Return To The Kpop World In October

By Simon Stawski

2PM are among the biggest names in the kpop world, along with Wondergirls, Super Junior, and SNSD. Recently, they just came back with their new song, aptly titled "I'll Be Back." There are a few odd things to note about this video, as it is unlike the rest of their videos in many, many respects.

1) The Terminator: supposedly, the movie "The Terminator" was an inspiration for this song. You can see its influence in the chorus, which sings "I'll Be Back," along with a metal hand that one of the members is wearing, and finally with the dance sequence at the end of the video which uses the song from the opening credits of "The Terminator." And that's it for the similarities between the two. 2PM's song is about love and a girl, so it's quite confusing why they would use the Terminator as their muse. There's no protecting of John Connor or shooting out kneecaps or running from the T2000. The Terminator had no place in this song and video, but was forced in, for some reason.

2) The Dance: what's very bizarre about this video is that the dance is awful. Absolutely awful. 2PM are some of the best dancers in all of Korea, yet the dance to this song is the running man. Sure, it's a little more complicated than just the running man: they change directions, and do the running man again. Wow! There's also a very bizarre sequence near the end of the video in which they start mule kicking and doing the running man at the same time. It's completely bizarre, and quite possibly the worst Kpop dance of the year.

3) The Makeup: this is quite possibly the most noteworthy part of the video. The members of 2PM are entirely covered in makeup, almost to an unrecognizable degree. We're not talking about a bit of eye-liner here. They've got more makeup on than the entire cast of Jersey Shore. A lot of fans are quite happy about this, because it's a really new look and it brings out their eyes, but others will note how ridiculous they look, unfortunately.

Unfortunately, it seems that a lot more bad things can be said about the video than good things. Some die hard fans will blindly love the song, but for the rest of us who really liked "Heartbeat" and "Without U" this song is a bit of a disappointment, and more than likely won't be making any top ten lists in the kpop world this year.
