Booking Bands Made Easy

By Glen Burton

Booking bands may seem straightforward but getting a quality band is not quite so easy. Asking the client the kind of music they like is where you should start, you also need to know why they want a band. A band that is used to gigging round the local pubs may not appeal to a people at a wedding party or special function. Booking bands means finding the right band for the job.

Unless you own a bar or run the local club, don't expect a band or their agent to get in touch with you. When it comes to booking bands, the approach will usually have to come from you. One way of finding a band is online, where the search engines can do the initial work for you.

Any good band will have its own website or social networking page and may even be with one of the more reputable booking agencies. So booking bands is not hard.

Booking bands can be fun when you know what you are doing. If you do not it can be quite worryingly not knowing how good your band is until they turn up. I always think it is a good idea to ring up venues where they have previously been as this is always a good indication. If they are local why not go and see them play at another local venue?

When you are booking bands you will need to give them information such as the time and place when they will be playing. Most people will appreciate it if you can let them know where they can park as they won't want to carry their equipment a long way.

You need to make sure that the stage is big enough to accommodate the band and all their equipment. When you are booking bands you need to let the players know whether the venue has a sound limiter otherwise the power will be cut if the noise reaches a certain level.

When booking bands bear in mind many of them have other gigs already booked up for, sometimes months in advance so do not leave booking a band until the last minute.

Like many things in life bands do not come cheap, especially the really good ones. The good ones may cost more but if it brings in the punters again and again then surely this is a sound investment.

If you're booking bands then you will need to take into account their travel costs, other things that may impact on your budget are the band's size and the sort of venue where you want them to gig. When you're booking bands you will often find that they are willing to negotiate a little if they quote too high.
