Miss A: Making A Name For Themselves In The K Pop Universe

By Simon Stawski

JYP, super producer of K Pop bands such as 2PM and Wonder Girls, has brought a new group into the spotlight, Miss A. With their first single "Bad Girl, Good Girl," the band have created a hit that has swept the nation and a dance that everyone and their mothers know. Here's what you need to know about this new pop sensation.

1) Miss A have quite a paradox going on in terms of their looks. They're not as ostentatious as 2NE1, but they're also not as homogenous as Girl's Generation. Instead, they have a group that blends together nicely, while one member, Jia, has bright pink hair, just to make you think a little.

2) There's a bit of controversy behind the chorus of the song. "You don't know me, so shut up boy" is what most people believe Miss A is singing. But if you ever go to a karaoke room and try to sing the song yourself, or if you watch the lyrics at the bottom of your screen at home, you'll notice that it says "Shut off" instead of "Shut up." Supposedly, this is because "Shut up" is too strong an expletive, so the lyrics are changed on screen, even though we all really know what they're saying.

3) Next to T-ara's "Bo Peep" this dance is quite possibly the most memorable dance of the year. It's the easiest and the most meaningful, and just about everybody will instantly know what you're doing if you even start it for one second. The fierceness and the attitude behind it have made it not only popular, but almost ubiquitous.

Without a doubt, Miss A's "Bad Girl, Good Girl" has become quite possibly the most popular song of summer 2010. The world now awaits their next single, and only hope that it can match the first.
