How To Quickly Study And Play The Acoustic Guitar

By Jimmy Q. Stage

If you've ever been at a celebration or get together, and noticed somebody playing an acoustic guitar, you know what a delight it probably was. They start strumming a tune, a set of chords, and if they are halfway good, most individuals can willingly play along, either by clapping or singing. If you would like to be that person, then this text is for you.

The first thing you'll need, of course, is an acoustic guitar. You'd be surprised how inexpensive they are. If you are just starting out, you certainly don't need a top of the line model, or even a brand new one. Classified ads are a great place to find a decent guitar for under a hundred dollars. Now that you've got your guitar, you are ready to take some lessons.

You can go about this many different ways, and it's up to how you want to learn. Some prefer to take traditional classroom based learning at community colleges. These are straightforward and easy, but if the class moves to fast or too slow you could be at a disadvantage. You could opt for a private instructor, but those can be rather expensive. Most people usually choose the self study route, as it is usually the cheapest, and most flexible. You can study and practice whenever you want.

If you prefer learning from books, or DVD sets, your local music store likely has plenty to choose from, or even any of the hundreds of online retailers. It's important to choose a course for beginners, that will start you off playing simple chords, and then slowly moving forward into individual notes.

What many believe is a better option is to sign up for an Internet based course. These usually come with interactive modules and videos. Videos can be essential because you can watch how to hold your hands and fingers, and you can listen to how your are supposed to sound when you play.

No matter what method you choose, the most essential ingredient is daily practice. One great thing about learning the acoustic guitar is that you can practice holding chord without actually playing them. Just by practicing changing chord with your left hand, you'll quickly be able be the one at parties that everybody is focused on.
