Make Your Own Beats Right Now

By Hugo H. Cercil

Making your own beats is a great way to ensure you have complete creative freedom and retain your artistic integrity when making your music. But trying to make your own beats with no knowledge of how to do it properly will result in more frustration.

New artists often have this problem as they don't know which beats to use. To make your own beats, you must know the first thing about survival as an entertainer. There are a lot of artists who don't realize that the genre they pick is important, especially if the goal is to get picked up by a label.

Using original beat, or that which doesn't belong to any genre, is risky; but if you can do it, go for it ! But for most of us, the ideal method is to go with the flow and choose a popular genre. You can still be original and creative by enhancing your beat so that it sounds unique amongst the already rehashed beats out there!

If you can master your genre, then you will have the skills to take risks with beats from other genres and enhance your unique perspective further!

Now that we have technology to help us create, aspiring and established musicians have been discovering that there are simple, cheap and effective ways to create great beats. If you're one of these artists who are looking for strategies to make your own beats, you must learn the basic knowledge on audio loops, midi drum patterns and baseline. With these basics as your foundation, you can continue to improve your talent of creating beats using technology.

Your bass line is the foundation of the entire sound and it is what will create the mood of your beat. Due to the importance of the bass line, it should be developed and perfected first before the rest of the sounds can be added to the beat. It is advisable to put your bass line on a repeating loop pattern so you can grasp the direction of your sound's development. The loops you make out of combined sounds of the instruments are the essential aspects of rap and hip hop. As soon as you've got these loops prepared, you can use the other sounds to alter the pace, the tone or mood of your beat. Once you have your first loop, then you can decide if you want to build on it to create a second loop.

Midi drum patterns are the last things you should add to your beat. To enhance your beat, you can create multiple midi drum patterns that are active all at once. You have to ensure that these drum patterns blend well and don't end up creating noise. These patterns of drum sounds are typically used over the bass line in a loop to improve the beat.

So, as soon as you make your own beats, ensure that your bass line can handle the enhancements you will make later on. Your audio loops and midi drum patterns will then be positioned at various points of your bass line. And there you go, you have made good beats with these three elements!
