It's all a matter of putting it all together the right way and creating a beat with a rhythm that sounds sick. Here is how you can make hip hop beats professionally or just for fun.
Ok so for this tutorial you will need a PC or Mac with speakers and the beat making software DubTurbo. If you want to use another software, you can do so.
With the software installed on your PC or Mac, open it and follow these steps on how to make hip hop beats. When it's running, draw 2 bars with the pencil tool.
To do this, click on the pencil tool, then click and hold the first bar as you drag the mouse across to the other side to create another bar. For this beat you want to make sure the fixed tempo (found top right of DubTurbo screen) is set to 104.0.
Next, grab the cursor found next to the pencil tool and click you the 2 bars that you have drawn. When you have highlighted the 2 bars, click on edit. A new screen will open with lots of squares on the DubTurbo interface. Now you can choose the patch you will use. Scroll down in the patched section and select Hip Hop1 beat. Now select the pencil tool so you can draw in beats.
Click the very first box to the left hand side of the grid, the so-called Kick1. This is your first hip hop beat.
Skipping a line of squares, click on HiHat1 square. Click on the Kick1 square on the next line. After that line you will need to add two squares one in the snare box and one in theClap box.
Skipping a line again, add a Kick2 and a HiHat1. Now skip 2 lines and add a Kick2. Line after that add a Kick1 and a HiHat1. Skip a line and add a snare. Add a HiHat1 after skipping another line. Add a HiHat1 and a Kick2 on the next line. On the remaining bars, just copy all those.
Hit the play button and you can hear a simple but very cool sound of a hip hop beat. You can add loops and some vocals to it.
For fun you could try other patches(sounds) or add some more beats to make it sound even better.
