Performing Ideas

By Erin Garcia

Listed here are more ideas as well as pointers that you can do to get yourself on the path to being a professional stand up comedian:

Create video clips of your shows. You need to be able to go back and look at how it turned out. There might be things that you didn't like and may have to make some changes.

Were you moving too much? Were you talking too slow or too fast? Did you talk too loud? It could take you several viewings to know how one can enhance it.

Go to the clubs. In case you are not ready for the comedy clubs yet, start at places that host open mic events. On the other hand, in order to better your craft, look at other comedy clubs to find out how other stand-up comedians perform.

It is possible to observe and take notes. Eventually, you'll be able to get in touch with a few club owners once they get accustomed to seeing your face in their place. You will also be able to go with some other stand-up comedians.

Have a notebook handy when you are performing. You could get ideas for your stand-up routine at the last minute. When you don't bring a notebook, then you will not manage to keep your ideas. Once it hits, write it down in case you haven't taken the stage yet.

Don't drag your feet on getting out there before a crowd. The more you put yourself out there, the more you will be able to do your job. In turn, it will be possible to learn the ropes of stand-up comedy shows. It's better to get more chances to perform since you will get more exposure.

If you screw up, do not stop learning. Don't expect that every time you perform your stand-up routine that the audience will fall in love with you. Sorry, but that is not true. You may experience what it really feels like for people to not laugh at your jokes because they feel that it's not interesting.

You will see the looks on their face that say your performance has been a waste of time and they demand a money back. All you can do is move forward, check out what did wonders and what didn't. You can work even harder to have it right the next time.

One thing that may get you a name you really don't want-getting other's comedian's materials. Don't even think about doing it in any way, shape, style or fashion. Even if you're making use of the material with different words, leave it alone. Your profession will certainly be null and void and you will have bitten the dust very quickly.

If a promoter or club manager gives you a time slot, stick within that time frame. You might be overstepping your range and taking advantage of what was given to you.

That would certainly be considered rude, inconsiderate and unprofessional to go over your time limit.

There may be other acts following yours and they need to get on when it's their time.

Even if the audience is not responding, that is no reason to get more time than you're supposed to have. Rest assured you have possibly taken your opportunity at performing at their venue in the future.

Be nice to your audience. You need them to be responsive to you and have fun at your material. There is no need to be insulting. Simply because some other comedians do it, doesn't mean you need to be the status quo.
