One of the stalwarts of the heavy metal rock scene is Sepultura who was formed in 1984 in Belo Horizonte in Brazil. There are now 11 Sepultura albums released to date. The band's music has been categorized as death metal, thrash metal, and groove metal.

The band's musical influence.

The band's musical influences include such great names in the heavy metal rock scene: Motorhead, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Metallica.

The Group's History

There has been a number of band member changes, but among those who had belonged to its early beginnings were Jairo Guedez, Paulo Jr., and the brothers Max and Igor Cavalera. Their first LP, Bestial Devastation, was released in 1985 and was soon followed by the release of their very first record, Morbid Visions. "Troops of Doom", their first major hit single was included in the album.

Morbid Visions was not technically at par with other commercially made records. The songs were poorly produced and even the band members had claimed that they forgot to tune their guitars during the recording sessions. Nevertheless the album was notable for being the entry of the band to mainstream meda and to the consciousness and awareness of a much larger heavy metal audience.

But after Morbid Visions, Jairo Guedez had opted to leave the band. He was replaced at the lead guitar spot by Andreas Kisser and this happened around the time that Schizophrenia, the second of their albums, was released.

It was with Schizophrenia that the band had finally ventured into thrash metal. Previously, with Morbid Visions, they were primarily into death metal genre. Their second album proved to be a success in Brazil and there were bootleg copies of it that found their way into Europe.

By the time their third album, Beneath the Remains, was released the band had already gained some popularity. Proof of this is the demand for their band merch. They then embarked on their first international tour across the United States, Mexico, and Germany. It was during this tour that they met their music idols such as Metallica and Motorhead.

Their fourth album, Arise, was the first to make it to the Billboard 200 charts ranking at no. 119. By this time Sepultura was already recognized as the top band in the death metal and thrash metal scene.

But just like with any other successful band, they have started to experiment using other music genres. Chaos A.D., the fifth of the Sepultura albums saw their music transforming into more of hardcore punk. And with their sixth album, titled Roots, their death and thrash metal sound was infused with the musical styles of the indigenous people of Brazil.

Then in 1996 another band member decided to leave. It was Max Cavalera and he provided to statements as to his reason why he left the band. A short while later, his brother Igor followed suit. Igor had cited some artistic incompatibilities. They have all formed their own respective bands.

Their Sepultura merch is the result of the band's decades long exposure as well as to their legions of fans who kept on collecting such great items to forever remember the band. Without any doubt, they are at the premier spot of the heavy metal champions.
