Hoquiam Commemorates Bluegrass Music

By Jacob Weaver

Bluegrass musicians-- local and visiting, amateurs and professionals-- went to Hoquiam Olympic Stadium to perform in the Grays Harbor Annual Bluegrass festival in Hoquiam, Washington. Hoquiam residents have been supportive to bluegrass music along with its fans, and have been hosting this annual music festival for several years.

Hoquiam residents have always found a connection with bluegrass music. Perhaps bluegrass music expresses the lifestyle of Hoquiam residents. Whatever their reason is, they show their appreciation for the music by patronizing this music festival which is celebrated by bluegrass lovers from all parts of the country. In this festival, bluegrass lovers come together with friends, share good food and great music.

The highlight of the festival would be the music that each performer brings on stage. You will get that old-fashioned rhythm that tunes in with your system. You will feel the emotions of the musicians as they play on the stage. You can hear that every tune and every melody speaks of something deep that punctures your heart and soul. You will also appreciate the entertainment that bluegrass players bring.

Blue grass music is produced by different acoustic instruments. These instruments are the guitar, violin, mandolin and the banjo. The authentic acoustic sound of these instruments and the natural groove of bluegrass music is the sure win combination that brings the hillbilly out from all of us.

Showdowns are one of the most awaited parts of bluegrass festivals. These happen when soloists play freestyle and engage into a head on musical showdown with other soloists. Bands also get involved with this and go against other bands. They play their hearts out trying to outperform the other party and it gives pure excitement to the bluegrass fans.

Another great thing about this bluegrass festival is that it allows bluegrass fans, musicians and even scholars to have fellowship with one another. They could gain friends through this event, which enable them to share ideas and talents with one another. This is also one of the reasons why Bluegrass festivals are very much patronized by the people of Hoquiam.

Bluegrass music is also undergoing a revolution. Artists infuse different instruments in bluegrass music. An example of this work is the use of the piano in playing bluegrass. They refer to this experimentation as Newgrass. Even with these changes, the distinct style that makes bluegrass music different from other genre still sticks out, and that is the two-part, three-part, and four-part vocal harmony which is called the lonesome sound. This high pitched number is almost jarring but it gives bluegrass that distinctive flavor we all love.

You should go to Hoquiam and join in the next Grays Harbor Annual Bluegrass festival. Enjoy the fun activities, meet people and experience blue grass music from the best bluegrass artists in the country. It will surely be an experience that you will never forget.
